Janet Bird’s set design is beautifully nostalgic and simultaneously claustrophobic; its cluttered furnishings and knick-knacks are gradually pared back as the piece progresses, reflecting the exposed emptiness of Sylvie’s lavish fantasies, and the inevitability of what must follow. YM Liverpool
