REVIEWS

Janet Bird’s wonderfully designed, multi-layered set, which is deceptively simple on initial impressions, but which repeatedly evolves and surprises throughout the course of the production.

Musical theatre review 5*

Janet Bird’s blue-toned set is deceptively simple but oh-so flexible. Her clever, streamlined designs whisk us deftly from life-size television screen to nightclub to train carriage to a barn where a show must inevitably go on.

The Times 4*

Designer Janet Bird has created a most ingenious set which shape-shifts from a rural barn to a sophisticated New York cabaret club without missing a beat. Hotel counters transform into pianos, fridges become doorways and bars, garden swings descend from the gods, and Christmas trees rise from the sub-stage.

Reviews hub 4.5*

Janet Bird’s stage design was extraordinary with trains, stages, and barns appearing on stage before the audience eyes, and the stage revolve was used expertly without detracting from the story being told. The sumptuous costumes were exquisite with special shout to Mouat and Mould’s “Sisters” costumes, and the costumes at the end of the show felt like you were in the middle of a Christmas tree with the female ensemble being the most perfect bauble.
